You’re an Organizer — Your House Must Be Perfect

When people find out that I organize for a job, they often assume 1) I’m a minimalist and 2) my house is perfect all the time. To which I often respond with a either blank stare or by bursting out laughing.

Of course my house isn’t perfect! I live there with 3 growing boys and a busy husband. And I’m definitely not a minimalist. I would say I’m a moderate-ist, probably. I’d guess I have fewer clothes and shoes than many women, but more books and plants. I don’t have much for knickknacks but I still have my high school yearbooks and a box of Michael Jordan memorabilia that I refuse to let go. My coffee mug cupboard is full-to-bursting. Our kids are in multiple sports and hoard collections of who knows what under their beds. My husband actually does fix our broken crap sometimes so he keeps random pieces of things. We. Have. Stuff.

But our stuff is organized. By that, I don’t mean perfectly organized, of course. We live in our home. People are coming and going all the time. I run a business from a tiny IKEA standing desk. We get stuff out and sometimes (gasp!) don’t put it away immediately.

Being “organized” means different things to everybody. To me it means knowing what we have, and being able to find it. Which we mostly can. (By we, I definitely mean me, because my kids are constantly asking, “Mom, where’s my...”) It also means that we can usually tidy up fairly frequently. In the span of a daily news podcast (Mo News!) or one of the kids’ Spotify playlists, we can easily get the house put back together. I don’t have to panic when the doorbell rings, because most of our visible mess is just proof that we live here!

Working with a professional organizer probably won’t mean that your house is perfect all the time, but it will mean that you can get it back to good more easily. Instead of being overwhelmed by your stuff, you can just be... whelmed (any other 10 Things I Hate About You fans out there?). As a professional organizer, I can help you be the boss of your stuff, so that a quick nightly tidy helps your mornings go a little smoother. I can help you revamp your laundry routine so you can get your couch back. As I mentioned on my most recent blog post, progress > perfection. I can help you get there; it’s a great place to be.

I’m so grateful you trusted me with your email address, and I would love to put all of these organizing tips and tricks to work for you.
